An All-Time Great

Nicknamed "Shaq," Shaquille O'Neal is one of the best centers in the history of basketball. His excellence began in high school, in which he was named a first-team Parade All-American and Texas Mr. Basketball in 1989. He played for LSU in college from 1989-1992. He had a standout year in 1991, when he was named both AP and UPI Player of the Year and led the NCAA in rebounds. The following season, he led the NCAA in blocks, and in both seasons he was SEC Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American.

O'Neal went first overall to the Orlando Magic in the 1992 NBA Draft. Over the course of his professional career, he played for six teams and won four NBA Championships, three with the Los Angeles Lakers (2000-2002) and one with the Miami Heat (2006). In his three Championships with the Lakers, he was the MVP of the Finals. O'Neal was an All-Star fifteen times and was eight times named All-NBA First Team. O'Neal won gold as a member of Team USA at the 1994 FIBA World Cup and the 1996 Olympic Games. He has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the FIBA Hall of Fame, and the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
