Dominance at Every Level
Shaquille O'Neal, or "Shaq," as he is often called, was a dominant player at center. He enjoyed success in high school and collage, in the NBA, and at the international level. In his senior year of high school, he was a first-team Parade All-American and Texas Mr. Basketball. He attended LSU and was the NCAA's leading rebounder in 1991 and leading shot blocker in 1992. In 1991, he was also UPI and AP Player of the Year, and he was a consensus first-team All-American and SEC Player of the Year twice (1991, 1992).
The Orlando Magic drafted O'Neal first overall in the 1992 NBA Draft. O'Neal played for six teams during his career. He won four NBA titles, three with the Los Angeles Lakers, in each of which he was Finals MVP, and one with the Miami Heat. He was the league's MVP in 2000 and a fifteen-time All-Star. Internationally, he won a pair of gold medals, one at the 1994 FIBA World Cup and one at the 1996 Olympics. O'Neal's dominance at multiple levels was so great that he has been inducted into three halls of fame, the College Basketball Hall of Fame, the FIBA Hall of Fame, and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. His no. 33 was retired by LSU, and he has his number retired by two NBA teams, the Los Angeles Lakers (34) and the Miami Heat (32).
