A Two-School Standout

Jalen Hurts played football at two of the most storied programs in the country, Alabama and Oklahoma. He took over the starting job from Blake Barnett in the second game of the 2016 season. In doing so, he became the first true freshman to start at quarterback for the Crimson Tide since 1984. Jalen took the Tide to an SEC Championship and a spot in the College Football Playoffs. Along the way, he won SEC Offensive Player of the Year and SEC Freshman of the Year honors. The following year, he took his team back to the playoffs, albeit without a conference title. The Tide won the National Championship, but coach Nick Saban replaced Hurts with Tua Tagovailoa at half time of the championship game. Hurts would not win the job back and backed Tagovailoa up in his third year. After graduating in December of 2018, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma, where he won a Big XII title and returned to the playoffs. That season, he finished second to Joe Burrow in voting for the Heisman Trophy.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Hurts fifty-third overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. Hurts completed 77 of 148 passes for 1,061 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions in his rookie year. He went 1-3 as a starter and played in 15 games overall. In the offseason, he changed his jersey number to No. 1.
