Toy and model enthusiasts and World War II themed collectors are sure to love this Cruiser Biloxi from the Lindberg Line. Paul Lindberg was a designer of balsa flying models who later expanded into other types of models. Constructing the models was a popular hobby among children, who worked with their minds and hands to put together some of the world's most famous and popular craft. This Cruiser Biloxi is new old stock and remains in mint condition. Made of plastic and cardboard, it measures 7" x 5" x 1" and weighs roughly four ounces. This model kit was made in Skokie, IL by Lindberg Products Inc.
The USS Biloxi launched on February 23, 1943 in the midst of World War II. Nicknamed "the Busy Bee," the ship earned nine battle stars. It played important roles in several key confrontations in the Pacific Theater. Among the most noteworthy were the Battle of the Philippine Sea, the famous assault on Iwo Jima, and the invasion of Okinawa. She was put out of commission in October of 1946 and sold for scrap in March of 1962.
