The Lindberg Line Model Kit New Old Stock - Battleship Iowa
Why purchase this New Old Stock The Lindberg Line Model Kit Battleship Iowa?
Paul Lindberg made one of the greatest contributions to childhood hobbies of the 20th century with his designs of balsa flying models. He would eventually branch out into several types of models as well, including ships like this Battleship Iowa. Constructing these models was a popular pastime among youth, who loved the chance to work with their hands and learn about some of the world's most fascinating vehicles. This model is new old stock, meaning that it was going to be sold but never was. Accordingly, it remains in mint condition. The model dates back to the 1950's and 1960's. Made of plastic and cardboard, it weighs about four ounces and measures 7" x 5" x 1". This piece is a product of Lindberg Products Inc., which was located in Skokie, IL.
The USS Iowa was the only ship in her class that served in the Atlantic Ocean in the Second World War. Among its assignments was the transportation of President Franklin Roosevelt from the United States to Mers El Kebir, Algeria. The President was traveling to a meeting with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin in Tehran. She later headed to the Pacific, where she participated in invasions of the Marshall Islands and flew Admiral William Halsey's flag in Tokyo Bay at the Japanese surrender. After participating in the Korean War, she was decommissioned. Today, she is on display in the Port of Los Angeles.
