Harley Davidson was founded in 1903 in Milwaukee, WI. Along with Indian, it was one of two major American motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Great Depression. These types of oil cans were used to fill motorcycle crankcases. The fact that these were meant to be used and thrown away makes it even more impressive that it survived and is in this near perfect condition. Can once contained oil, but it has leaked out and top and bottom are still sealed. Not known how many in this condition are in existence, but numbers are most likely relatively low. This can was acquired from the owner of an original dealership in Altoona, PA. He had kept them since 1973 when he purchased the building.

This is "New, Old Stock" meaning that it is original from the fifties and has been preserved in a collection since that time. This is quite a feat if you consider that a garage environment--where it may have been found decades ago--would be difficult on the original carton.
