Chevrolet 1950's Canvas Banner

In stock
This is a double sided advertising sign. The company would supply the garage or dealership with this type of advertising. Typically these pieces are damaged as they were heavily used. Many collectors have a space in their home or garage where they display these types of pieces. Rec rooms are a great place to hang these signs. Some collectors specialize in a certain brand or category such as gas & oil pieces.

Why does this Chevrolet canvas banner from the 1950's deserve a place in your collection?

The Chevrolet Motor Company was founded in 1911 by Swiss race car driver and automotive engineer Louis Chevrolet, along with his brother Arthur, and General Motors founder William Durant. The low-priced automobile market from the 1920's through the 1940's was dominated by Chevrolet, Ford and Plymouth. In the 1950's Chevrolet greatly influenced design and technology of the automobile, with the introduction of the Corvette sports car in 1953, and the launch of its first fuel injected engine in 1957. By the early 1960's, one out of every ten cars sold in the United States displayed the highly recognizable Chevrolet emblem.

Chevrolet Advertising in the 1950's

The iconic Chevrolet "bowtie" emblem was designed by Durant, and introduced in 1913. Throughout the 20th century, the emblem's appearance was indicative of the vehicle type it identified. The emblem was blue on passenger cars, gold on trucks, and as an outline (most often red) on cars equipped with performance packages. In the mid-20th century, Chevrolet provided dealers, repair shops and fuel stations with banners such as this one to advertise its brand. This double sided canvas banner issued by the Chevrolet Motor Company in 1953 measures 15" x 10" with a weight of approximately 5 oz.

Gorgeous Vintage Banner

This 1953 Chevrolet Canvas Banner is considered to be in excellent condition. This is an intriguing find, as many examples from the same period that exist today are heavily worn with exposure to the elements or the grime of a repair shop, and are often damaged. A banner is this condition may have been a showroom piece, hanging above a Corvette, a Bel Air sport coupe or perhaps a Townsman station wagon. This vintage Chevrolet Banner would look fabulous in a frame, hanging on a recreation room wall.
